Job Description

The position is based in St. Louis, MO at the Washington University Orthopedics Performance Center. The primary role includes being the Sports Performance Dietician with St. Louis City`s first team and working within the Sports Performance department while being collaborative with the Sports Medicine and Coaching Staff members.

The Sports Performance Dietician's main function is overseeing the nutritional needs of all athletes by conducting individual assessments, team nutrition education, and counseling to improve nutritional and dietary habits. This person serves as an integral part of the club and the club's vision and will be able to effectively promote nutritional strategies alongside the performance, medical, and coaching staff.

The Sports Performance Dietitian reports directly to the Director of High Performance, Sporting Director & Head Coach for St. Louis City SC. They will also work closely with the following STL City staff members at the MLS, NextPro and MLS Next Academy: athletic trainers, performance coaches, technical staff, team physical therapist, team psychologist, team massage therapist, team doctors and any outsourced medical professionals that work with the organization.

Qualifications:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition, or a related area from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
  • Two years' work experience with professional, semi-professional, or collegiate athletes
  • Must possess a valid passport/driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel with team in pre-season and work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in nutrition, exercise science, or other related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Working towards Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)

Position Summary:

Duties include developing nutritional and hydration strategies, for St. Louis City Senior Team, with a secondary emphasis on the NextPro and MLS Next Academy Teams. Establishing dietary expectations and defining future goals based on the needs and demands of both individual athletes and the team. Assisting Director of High Performance or medical staff with any needs or tasks assigned.

  • Coverage of all STL City home games
  • Working collaboratively and offering guidance with full time culinary staff for planning of daily meals at all STL City training sessions
  • Planning necessary meals for STL City away trips including the review of hotel BEO's
  • Organizing post game meals with Kitchen staff at all STL City home games
  • Manage schedule and menus of post training lunches for USL team.
  • Weekly hydration assessments on all STL City senior team players
  • Create and implement individualized nutritional plans for all STL City players.
  • Assess blood work and supplementation for player safety in accordance with MLS governing banned substance guidelines (i.e. NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Choice)
  • Complete regular body composition assessments on STL City first team players
  • Monitoring daily body weight for all STL City players, and weekly monitoring for NextPro team
  • Managing and maintaining organization with the ordering, inventory and distribution of all supplements for the organization
  • Maintain organization and stocking of the fueling station, as well as the distribution of pre and post training nutritional shakes at all STL City training sessions.
  • Plan and deliver educational presentations and resources for all three STL City entities (MLS, NextPro, MLS Next Academy)
  • Assist Director of High Performance in managing Budget for all supplements, snacks, and meals
