Burns is currently seeking a licensed Senior Systems Engineering Specialist to join our Aviation team in St. Louis, MO.

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of specialized professional engineering and technical duties including designs, project layouts and contract documents in accordance with company design standards and client requirements under supervision of the Project Manager and Senior Engineers. Maintains status as recognized expert in specialization by clients and industry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides the technical support to professional staff and direction to design team members assigned to the telecommunications, access control, CCTV camera surveillance and recording systems, digital television, digital signage and structured cabling projects, including the associated network (hardware and software).
  • Assists in the development of all drawings, sketches and specifications required to complete a project design in telecommunications, access control, CCTV camera surveillance and recording systems, digital television, digital signage and structured cabling
  • Assists in the creation and development of system designs for assigned projects
  • Assists Project Managers and Senior Engineers with coordination of the design with other disciplines, attends design coordination meetings with members and client representatives.
  • Reviews electronically generated drawing with accuracy, neatness and speed, maintaining high quality and uniform standards of lines and lettering.
  • Informs the Project Manager and Engineer of technical challenges and any design work beyond his or her capabilities
  • Studies and selects telecommunications, access control, CCTV, digital television, digital signage and structured cabling equipment including network equipment hardware and software to fit the project design
  • Ensures the company, client and industry standards (NEC, ISA, BICSI, TIA/EIA, ETC) and technical policies and procedures (TSA, FAA, FCC, CBP, etc.) are practiced during the execution of projects for clients
  • Reviews shop drawings, record changes and keeps all disciplines informed of details and schedules
  • Communicates design requirements and answers questions from contractors and suppliers during the bid or construction phases and maintains records of communications.
  • Supervises field data collections and/or field system verification
  • Coordinates the contract documents with the construction administrators and performs onsite inspections during construction as required.
  • Reviews project specification to fit project requirements Performs specific engineering studies including cable tray and conduit fill and bend radius, ampere loading calculations and design analyses of existing facility conditions

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No supervisory responsibilities

Education & Experience:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • PE/RCDD/CTS certifications preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 10 years applicable design experience in the designing and engineering of audio video, technology, or similar low voltage systems.
