Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist

This position requires an active Public Trust clearance and US Citizenship required

Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze, interpret, and visualize spatial data. Collaborates with teams to gather and process geographic data, creating maps and models that inform decision-making. Manages database systems, troubleshoots technical issues, and develops customized geospatial solutions to address specific project requirements. Ensures accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of geospatial information for effective planning and resource management.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist: $85K-$90K Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop maps, charts, and reports to effectively present findings to stakeholders.
  • Assist in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of GIS applications (e.g., Web-maps, Dashboards, StoryMaps).
  • Support data analysis and visualization by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data.
  • Conduct spatial analysis and modeling to facilitate decision-making processes.
  • Create talking points, tables, figures, maps, data visualizations, and slides for presentations and publications.
  • Assist in coordinating responses to information requests and developing presentations
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems within applications.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or a related field (graduate-level degrees strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of experience performing GIS-related tasks.
  • 2-5 years of experience supporting Federal clients, particularly DoD, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ESRI software products such as ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or other object-oriented programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, CSS, C#, .NET) preferred
  • Understanding of vector and raster GIS data types.
  • Capability to create and modify geographic data from various sources.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly, work independently, and deliver results within deadlines.
  • Strong command of the English language for presenting analytical results.
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust and US Citizenship required
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
