Job Description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Headquarters is looking for a Disaster Recovery Services Volunteer/Resource Coordinator. This individual will work in tandem with local LTRG, COAD, and Disaster Recovery Services Team. Recruit and coordinate the use of volunteer groups for long-term recovery projects. Locate resources to assist disaster survivors with completing their recovery plans established by them and their case managers.

 

 

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, $39,000 per year. This is temporary position for 12 months with possibility of extension based on grant funding.

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee coordination of recovery volunteers. This includes locating and building relationships with volunteer groups. Knowing what the disaster recovery needs are to explain to volunteer groups the work that will need to be completed. Scheduling volunteer groups to come and assist with disaster recovery.
  2. Assess and communicate the ongoing challenges, gaps in services, and needs of the disaster-impacted community.
  3. Partner and work cooperatively as a team with local LTRG/COAD leadership and other organizations to establish and ensure collaboration, cooperation, communication, and coordination of any and all recovery resources.
  4. Work with the Construction Manager on construction project coordination.
  5. Volunteer management. Monitoring long-term recovery needs to schedule volunteer groups appropriately. Working closely with the construction manager to develop work plans. Finalizing accommodations for volunteer groups coming in from out of town. Tracking volunteer hours for reporting purposes.
  6. Resource management. Locating community resources available for disaster survivors. Developing relationships with other organizations, businesses, etc. that are willing to donate items for long-term recovery. Working with case managers to understand the gaps and needs that exist. Doing presentations within the community to obtain needed resources.
  7. Collect and present data and reports as necessary for the planning, evaluation, and support of LTRG/COAD.
  8. Act as a liaison to state VOAD and COAD partners, state emergency management, other organizations and social service providers, and other professionals (i.e., FEMA, SEMA, and city/county government.)
  9. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as the resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

 

Education and Experience

  1. High School diploma
  2. Community Service or volunteer coordination experience
  3. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to connect with various personalities.
  4. Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  6. Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation
  7. Willing to travel within the St. Louis Metro area.
  8. Flexible scheduling

 

Preferred

  1. Community development experience
  2. Public speaking experience
  3. Demonstrated leadership ability.
  4. Database management experience

 

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

 

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment including using a computer, answering phones, etc.  Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
