Job Description

Ingram Barge is looking to hire a Facility Safety Manager to join our team overseeing the safety and well-being of associates, the environment, customers, communities and property at our Granite City, IL and St. Louis, MO facilities which include terminals, fleets, and office locations. This position requires a strong background in safety management, along with in-depth knowledge and certifications in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations.

We depend on our safety team to help identify and reduce risk in the workplace, help reduce costs, and optimize the contributions of our workforce.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and USCG regulations, fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Staying abreast of changes in OSHA and USCG regulations, ensuring that the river terminal remains in compliance with all applicable standards. Developing strategies to address and rectifying any compliance issues.
  • Conducting safety training sessions for employees, covering topics such as hazardous material handling, emergency response procedures, and general safety protocols. Ensuring all employees receive appropriate safety training and maintain required certifications.
  • Leading and overseeing investigations of safety incidents and accidents, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Maintaining detailed incident records and report findings to management.
  • Developing and maintaining emergency response plans for various scenarios, collaborating with relevant authorities and agencies. Conducting regular drills to ensure preparedness in case of emergencies.
  • Conducting regular safety audits and inspections of the facility to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Developing and executing corrective action plans as needed.
  • Establishing effective communication channels for safety-related information. Promoting open lines of communication between management and employees regarding safety concerns, initiatives, and best practices.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, records, and reports. Preparing and submitting required reports to regulatory agencies as necessary

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification.
  • USCG Hazardous Material Response (HAZMAT) certification.
  • Proven experience in safety management within an industrial or maritime setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and USCG regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a safety-focused culture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of crane and rigging requirements and regulations
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910 (general), OSHA 1915 (Shipyards) and OSHA 1917 (Marine Terminals)
  • Knowledge of Federal Railcar Safety (FRA)
  • Knowledge of facility environmental and air quality requirements
