Research Assistant - Decorative Arts & Design

Summary: The Decorative Arts and Design department seeks a part-time Research Assistant for 25 hours per week, serving three years. The part-time Research Assistant will provide vital research support for the curator and associate curator in four major areas of department activity requiring research: exhibitions; installations and other gallery work; potential acquisitions and deaccessioning including provenance; and cataloging to expand the online the online collection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant provides research to support an active program of exhibitions and permanent collection installations in progress and in development with their accompanying publications, checklists, and interpretive texts, including digital media and audio guides.

  • The RA will support acquisitions process including researching makers and identifying comparatives in other collections to establish attributions, dating, and nomenclature.
  • The RA will help expand representation of the DAD collection online by cataloguing works in priority areas with oversight of department curators.
  • Other essential activities and responsibilities include researching scholar and public inquiries; and working on intern selection and supervision; blog posts; tours.

Qualifications: BA is required; MA in decorative arts and design or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of TMS database helpful. Excellent research and writing skills are essential.

Additional Details:

Minimum of Range: $19.70

Status: Limited, Part-Time (25 hours/week)

Selected candidates will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test before hire.
