International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Summer Intern to join our R&D team! It's an exciting time to be part of the analytical team that supports the Nourish division within IFF. We are a global leader in taste, scent and nutrition, offering our customers a broad range of solutions to meet their needs while accelerating our growth strategy. This internship will support our plant-based protein business within the food industry.

The successful candidate will bring educational skills, strong communication and presentation skills, and a desire for teamwork to our team. The Summer Intern will apply classroom skills to solve analytical problems in areas of method development and sample analysis, to characterize sample quality.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting Advanced Analytical projects including new method development in the area of quality based on visual evaluation of samples
    • Conducting experiments to image samples using microscopy
    • Utilizing image analysis software to evaluate images
    • Preparing weekly/monthly/quarterly summary reports and presenting to analytical and site management
  • Other work may include exposure to Process R&D, Engineering R&D, Applications, and Sensory teams.
Job Requirements

The following are required:

  • A college sophomore, junior, or senior working towards a degree in Chemistry or a related field, with an interest in analytical work
  • Available to complete summer assignment (mid-May through mid-August 2024)
  • Technical knowledge
    • Chemistry (extensive)
    • Mathematics (extensive)
    • Statistics (basic)
    • Laboratory equipment operation and safety (basics)
    • MS Office software
  • Must have a valid working permit to work in the USA
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, process, and analyze data
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Willing and able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Willing and able to sit or stand for extended periods
