Wieland is hiring a Drafter/Designer. The Drafter/Designer will be responsible for the drafting and design work supporting engineers and engineering projects in the Brass Mill and Cupping Plants with majority of work being mechanical in nature.This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Work Schedule: This is a 24/7 operation. The hours for this role are Monday - Friday 8a-4:30p with occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

Drafter/Designer Responsibilities:

    Work closely with engineers to create, revise, and archive drawings. Design instructions may be given verbally or in writing.
  • Occasionally perform engineering design work based on design parameters prepared by others.
  • Typical drawing/design topics are heavy-duty steel fabrications, sheet metal fabrications, basic machine/power transmission designs (shafts, bearings, pulleys, couplings, etc.), piping schematics, P&ID's, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Exercise independent judgment in dimensioning and tolerancing of parts and components to best function within the design intent.
  • Interact with production and maintenance staff to understand issues and work with others to arrive at best solution.
  • Perform as necessary a variety of mathematical calculations.
  • Arrange the sequence of the work by planning and judgement.
  • Perform fieldwork as required, taking measurements, and collecting data as necessary.
  • Support procurement efforts by obtaining quotes to implement designs.
  • Occasionally revise electrical or civil/structural drawings using information prepared by others.
  • Will typically work on designs from concept to completion, but may occasionally finish drawings/designs started by others.
  • Design changes in a way to be safe, ergonomic, and maintainable.

Drafter/Designer Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years minimum previous experience and/or schooling in CAD drafting required.
  • College level courses in engineering and/or mechanical drawing preferred.
  • Knowledge of 3D Solid modeling and AutoCAD required, Inventor preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine and fab shop procedures and artistic skill in the presentation of drawings.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience in mechanical design.
  • Experience/understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical schematics and civil drawings helpful.
