Wieland is hiring a Safety & Health Manager to join the team!The Safety & Health Manager will be responsible for continually monitoring, adapting, and facilitating the successful implementation of guidelines and policies for safety, health, and risk management. The area of responsibility includes multiple manufacturing plant buildings within East Alton, IL. This key role will be instrumental in driving and promoting the safety culture and employee engagement within the plant while providing support to the leadership team and employees.

This role is located in East Alton, IL in our brass mill and casting plant and requires 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

Safety & Health Manager Responsibilities:

    Drives and promotes a zero-incident culture and employee engagement through the plant
  • Defines the plant safety and health plan in alignment with the Wieland Safety Strategy
  • Monitors legislative requirements and supports the implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) procedures in compliance with local legislation and Wieland's Safety Strategy
  • Reports plant safety and health performance and data to plant leadership team and business unit Safety, Health, and Environmental Director
  • Supports and advises the plant leadership team within target setting and development of the safety plan
  • Collaborates with the environmental engineering team to address potential risks and hazards as needed
  • Develops and oversees appropriate training to colleagues onsite to ensure that they possess the necessary knowledge, skills and awareness
  • Reviews and revises company standards, policies, and practices
  • Ensures audits are completed on a regular basis to detect existing or potential risks and hazards. Ensures the recommended corrective or preventive measures are completed to mitigate risk
  • Provides expertise during execution of JHA's, detailing work instructions
  • Investigates safety incidents and close call reporting to identify the underlying root cause, support the implementation of corrective actions, and communicate key learnings/outcomes
  • Ensures contractors and subcontractors have implemented an effective safety process by conducting pre-qualifications and by auditing work in progress on a regular basis
  • Assist departments with development of DSPC's and scope of their responsibilities
  • Identify and spread best practices within the plant and across the business unit
  • Reviews and evaluates technical developments to measure applicability to company processes
  • Right to stop any activity that could lead to serious incidents
  • Escalation to business unit Safety, Health and Environmental Director when there is a conflict of interest

Safety & Health Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or other related science field is required
  • Minimum of 5 years' EHS experience in an industrial environment or heavy manufacturing is required
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO45001 is preferred
  • Proven experience in promoting a culture of safety and driving employee engagement
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Exceptional communication skills within all levels of the organization
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Strong project management, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working directly with local governments (depending on geographical location: state, local and federal), safety, and environmental agencies
