Summary of Position

The Manager R&D Lab will work in a dynamic organization in the R&D group for North America. This role will report to the Sr. Director of Upstream Chemistry and their role will be split approximately 50/50. The first half of their responsibility will be managing a team of 3-5 analytical chemists. The Manager of R&D Lab will focus on scheduling and people development for their team. This team will support projects related to Curium's business strategy in the space of sterile drug manufacturing including reactor and cyclotron derived new and existing drug products. The other half of the role will focus on managing the R&D Lab. This work will involve SOP writing and management, data integrity, safety, and supply order management.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Hours could be adjusted.

Essential Functions
  • Manage a team of 3-5 direct reports, adhering to all Curium policies and practices for leadership.
  • Set clear vision by ensuring team goals and objectives are aligned with business unit strategies, and manage project demands.
  • Great organization and communication skills - needs to be able to manage the schedule of the team and get items complete in priority order.
  • Setting up huddle boards, Kanban systems, and Lean tools for the lab.
  • Reviewing analytical data from the teams and ensuring use of lab notebooks are compliant with R&D systems.
  • Writing and reviewing SOPs related to laboratory and instrument operation.
  • All programs must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC/S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, or related field required. Master of Science degree preferred.
  • Minimum of twelve years of relevant experience required inChemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in, or with, manufacturing operations as it pertains to development and life-cycle management.
  • Experience with medical isotopes and radiation safety programs preferred.
  • Proven experience within complex multi-discipline project teams in a highly regulated environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including ability to lead a team, work independently, and as a team member.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively in high pressure environments.
  • Ability to react to problems and lead the team to develop solutions while communicating effectively to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Experience applying formal Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word), experience with MS Project and Visio preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis to support experimental results.
  • Six Sigma certification preferred, with experience using Minitab, or other statistical software.

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to work in plant producing radioactive materials and requiring all employees to participate in safety programs designed to minimize potential and/or actual exposure levels.
  • Responsibilities include the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, must be able to physically negotiate stairs and evacuation ladders with or without accommodation, wear and operate safety equipment, enter vessels, and inspect equipment.
  • Material handling devices (e.g., hand truck, fork truck, and conveyors) are used when possible, however, use of proper lifting and movement techniques is necessary to prevent injury.
  • Must be willing to wear a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hearing protection as needed.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of 8+ hours a day while performing duties.
  • Must possess good hand-eye coordination; close attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to mechanical/moving parts, hazards including corrosive, flammable and toxic material, dust, dirt, odors, and irritants.
  • Willingness to complete safety training within allotted timeframes, and work in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, including off shift, weekend, and holiday work as business needs require.
