Taylor Geospatial Institute Cluster Hiring Initiative

In April 2022, Saint Louis University (SLU) launched the - the nation's leading geospatial research collaborative, comprising eight of the Midwest's outstanding research institutions. The TGI is led by Saint Louis University and includes the Danforth Plant Science Center, Harris-Stowe State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Washington University in St. Louis. TGI's vision is to be the nation's leader in geospatial science research and accelerate the St. Louis region's development as a global geospatial center of excellence. We are harnessing the power of partnership with industry, government agencies, and research entities to grow talent and develop core geospatial science and adjacent fields that enable positive impacts on some of the world's greatest challenges including food systems, geospatial health, and national security. With the goal of becoming a world-class leader and creating a lasting geospatial impact, SLU intends to hire strategically across the University in areas that directly intersect with the TGI. Enabled by the legacy gift supporting TGI, SLU has the opportunity to hire approximately 20 faculty across 3 years, marking our footprint as a world-class research University in geospatial science and adjacent fields while simultaneously multiplying our excellence in our teaching and our mission. This call for faculty positions is part of this exciting cluster hire initiative in geospatial science and adjacent fields.

About the Department of Aviation Science

The Oliver L. Parks Department of Aviation Science in the School of Science and Engineering at Saint Louis University currently consists of four full-time faculty members who offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs to approximately 195 undergraduate students majoring in Aeronautics and 26 graduate students enrolled in our master's and doctoral programs (Ph.D. and Av.D.) in Aviation. The program is seeking dynamic, collegial, collaborative, and creative applicants that are dedicated to supporting ground-breaking, externally funded research in the field of both crewed aircraft and sensor application. Experience in the areas of aviation, aviation education, aviation flight, sensor use, or related areas are preferred. Applicants should be motivated to deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences to undergraduate students in a team-oriented, student-focused environment.

Job Description and Primary Responsibilities:
* Develop, deliver, and assess aviation courses in support of the school's teaching mission.
* Contribute to the growth of aviation-related research and outreach.
* Create inclusive and engaging teaching experiences to develop socially conscious aviation industry practitioners.
* Mentor undergraduate students.
* Participate in departmental, school, university, and professional service activities.
* Perform flight-related activities to meet the data collection needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
* A bachelor's degree in aviation and a master's degree in aviation, education, or a closely related field.
* Excellence in teaching as demonstrated through previous teaching and curriculum development experiences.
* Desire to engage with SLU's mission-driven learning and outreach activities.
* Federal Aviation Administration certificates and ratings, including Certified Flight Instructor commensurate with departmental teaching and research expectations.
* The applicant should be authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Relevant teaching experience that promotes hands-on, experiential learning.
* Demonstrated ability and vision to collaborate and build a multidisciplinary initiative in pursuit of enhancing undergraduate education.
* Experience with utilizing crewed aircraft sensors and sensor engineering intended for use with data collection purposes.
