REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED with 4 years of experience.  Completion of apprenticeship program in Carpentry, preferred.

Currently hold a Top Secret clearance polygraph. 

Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the master key system while meeting customer requests.

Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices.

Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.

Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.

Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.

Issues keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned.

Maintains records of work performed.

Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains both mechanical locking and electronic key card systems.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The locksmith performing these duties must possess current GSA certification to install, maintain, and repair the latest series of DoD approved combination locks in use by the facilitY. 

Will be responsible for identification, servicing, opening and repairing, and PM and periodic inspection of GSA approved containers/doors and locks on those containers and doors.

Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

Ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install and repair locks and hardware.

Records maintenance skills.

Ability to interpret, implement, and maintain pre-defined master key systems.

Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair both mechanical locking and electronic access control devices.

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures.

Must possess security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America

GSA Safe and Vault Certification

Physical Ability Requirements:

  1. Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 50 pounds for an extended period of time.
  2. Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  3. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  4. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  5. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  6. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
