Job Description:

Position Description:

Plan and perform a wide range of duties to install, demonstrate and instruct customer's employees in the operation of company produced machinery at the customer's plant. This role makes field service calls to troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning units according to customer requests and scheduling requirements.

Key Responsibilities/Complexities:

  • Work from assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, machine manuals, technical procedures and specifications to assist with new machine installation and upgrade as required; assist with installations of various sections and complete machines and adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation.
  • Set up and operate machinery to produce customer's product; instruct operators in set-up and operating procedures; provide technical and practical answers to customer's questions or problems.
  • Perform routine and/or emergency breakdown mechanical/electrical service on company equipment; determine root cause of trouble; prepare report of findings and solutions to problem.
  • Act as liaison between customer and company; maintain positive relationships with customers.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • May lead a small team of field service team members, contractors and/or customer personnel through the project stages.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly and safe working environment.

Competencies:

  • Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and interpret complicated specifications.
  • Working knowledge of mechanics, machine erection, electronics and machine testing.
  • Ability to perform calculations used in shop arithmetic.
  • Working understanding of and how to operate various hand tools and precision measuring equipment used in assembly.
  • Some knowledge of complex machine assemblies.
  • Some knowledge of printing, inks and qualities of paper in order to troubleshoot machine malfunction.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; ability to learn and work with database systems.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills; be able to independently solve problems while interacting with various teams and teammates on daily processes and flow.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking various duties throughout the day, have a positive attitude with an ability to be versatile and flexible.

Initiative/Ingenuity:

Requires considerable judgement to plan work, perform exacting assembly operations, test finished machines, and to diagnose and remedy trouble. Assist, direct and instruct a group of departmental and customer employees in proper performance of duties. Handles less complex problems.

Supervisory/Responsibility:

Works under general direction with some latitude; responsible for own work only.

Work Environment:

The Field Service Technician II works in customer plants. Exposed to plant and new construction elements such as dirt, oil, grease, along with extended travel away from home.

Physical Demands:

The employee may be required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may lift and/or move up to 75 pounds unassisted and greater than 75 pounds with assistance. Continuous mental and visual attention is required in planning and performing assembly operations.

Responsibility - Equipment/Materials:

Improper assembly operations and failure to check work may result in losses through rework or damage to mechanics; thoughtlessness/inattention while handling tools and materials and operating machinery may result in serious injuries and lost-time to self and others.

Safety:

All safety regulations must be observed.

Position Type:

This is a regular, full-time position with frequent overtime. Holiday and weekend work is routine for this position. All candidates must be willing to work overtime.

Travel:
Extensive travel within North America (USA, Canada, Mexico) region; opportunity for international travel if desired. Anticipated travel over a six month period is 75%-80%.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; training/degree equivalent to 2 years' technical college preferred.
  • Typically requires 2-4 years' experience in electro-mechanical industrial equipment assembly and repair.

Other Duties:

Perform various other similar or associated duties as assigned or directed.
