Job Description:

A field service engineer for BW Papersystems (BWP) is responsible for the installation, service, and maintenance of company products and machinery in the field. This position is a highly visible role within our organization, serving the important function of customer service and satisfaction while providing service and troubleshooting support. In addition, great opportunity lies in this role as it can be the gateway career to many other areas of our business including engineering, sales, project management, and more.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs and supervises machine installations and services of BWP products. The position is that of an on-site supervisor that will also require hands-on support depending on the assignment, customer and location.
  • Provide training of customer operation and maintenance personnel along with junior technical service personnel. Emphasis on the safe operation of the products and establishing zero-energy state during maintenance is to be executed.
  • Plan, lead, and oversee contractually executed commitment of commercial projects.
  • Provide remote customer support via phone, email, remote connection and other services.
  • Provide follow-up documentation in a timely manner including: Installation and service record, trip reports, expenses, and payroll information.
  • Demonstrate increased levels of competence with BWP products as measured by levels of certification on the products.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Service Leader.
  • Comply with company standards for attendance and hours of work. Promote and support company-sponsored affirmative action/equal opportunity efforts.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition, informing supervisor of defective or faulty equipment or materials and unusual conditions, maintaining quality standards and following safety rules.
  • Work assignments when not traveling could include any of the following: working on the assembly floor assisting on final machine build and start-up, PO assembly, providing inside tech support, working with R & D/engineering, etc.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language: English is primary; German is a plus.

Experience: Experience in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment, and training and certification on BWP products is preferred.

Attaining graduated levels of Field Service Engineer is based on months of experience, demonstrating advancing levels of proficiency on BWP machines, and the number of times for which the employee has been the lead person on a machine installation.

Skills and Abilities:

Proven verbal and written communication skills are a plus. Some Field Service Engineer positions may require a proficiency in one or more languages other than English.

Physical Activities: Mainly working in customers' manufacturing facilities worldwide. Requires extensive travel (approximately 80-90% travel). Requires substantial lifting, climbing, twisting, kneeling, etc.

Physical, Visual and Mental Demands: Anticipated field time over a six-month period is 75% - 80%. Holiday and weekend work is routine for the Field Service Engineer.
