Description

The Family Court of St. Louis County is hiring for Full-Time Male and Female Detention Deputy Juvenile Officer positions within the Detention Department. Our Detention Deputy Juvenile Officer positions are established with a Bona Fide Requirement: Occupational Qualification requiring that the candidate be of the same gender as the resident unit. Due to the direct custodial care and the nature of the interaction required in these positions, only MALE candidates are eligible to compete for this particular vacancy.  These are non-merit positions.

Work involves exercising appropriate behavior management techniques in the enforcement of rules and regulations in a secure facility at the front desk or in the unit, as well as informal individual and group counseling.

This posting is for the following shifts: 6 a.m. - 2 p.m., 2 p.m. - 10 p.m., or 10 p.m.- 6 a.m.
 Position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness 

Range 109 $22.00 - $24.00 Hourly This rate includes 10% addition to pay. Position is eligible for 10% shift differential when working second or third shifts. After successful completion of the probationary period, employees become eligible for annual merit increases based on performance appraisal ratings contingent upon budgetary availability.

Examples of Duties

Position functions as the supervisor of juveniles assigned to the residential Detention units or working at the control desk.  Detention Deputy Juvenile Officer positions are responsible for maintaining security and control, as well as providing direct supervision to the residents assigned to the unit. This includes, but is not limited to: developing, implementing and overseeing special Detention programs and activities for juvenile residents as a part of a large behavioral model; building team approaches to resolve problems; serving as a model for detained youth; providing informal group and individual counseling, including crisis intervention; supervision of shower facilities, etc.; conduct room unit and/or body searches of residents; and physically restraining residents when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related social/behavioral science; or four years of responsible, paraprofessional social service experience working with juvenile delinquents and/or their families may be substituted in lieu of college; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional Information

All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part-time, full-time, term or on-call position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be bourne by the County. Applicants will also be required to submit to an extensive background and criminal record check.
